Brethern:
In May we enjoyed a great evening with The Consolidated Lodge. We performed the First Degree. Thanks to our officers who did an excellent job on the first section and to the officers of The Consolidated Lodge who were equally impressive in the second section. It is our pleasure to accommodate other Lodges when we don't have candidates of our own.
During our business meeting we unannimously voted for MW Richard Sokoll, Grand Master of Masons in the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations, to be an Honorary Member of Shawmut Lodge. This is as much an honor for Shawmut Lodge as it is intended to be for Brother Sokoll, considering the long and enduring relationship between Shawmut and Redwood Lodges. MW Brother Sokoll is a Past Master of Redwood Lodge. We look forward to the time when Brother Sokoll can visit us and sign the By-Laws.
Also during the May business meeting the Lodge discussed in great length the issue of merging with The Consolidated Lodge. The brethren present were brought up to date on the continuing deliberations and had their questions satisfied. It was decided that we would formally vote on the question at our June communication. Please make every effort to be there, state your feelings and cast your vote.
There is much to be done at our June communication. Annual election of officers, in-memoriams for Brothers who recently passed away as well as our annual In-Memoriam, and of course, the vote to merge with The Consolidated Lodge. I can't urge you more seriously to be there and participate in the business of your Lodge. I will endeavor to open on time and conduct our business expeditiously. I am also trying to arrange for us to meet in the Needham apartments so we can take advantage of the air conditioning. As I write this, that has not been accomplished. Until then we'll plan on meeting in Newtonville, opening at 6:00 PM. Stay tuned.
